"We are all in need of healing, because of what we have done, what we have failed to do, and what has been done to us." Father Michael Lapsley
Father Michael Lapsley will speak about his journey from being a freedom fighter to becoming a healer. His journey began as a former anti-apartheid activist targeted for assassination by the South African regime only 3 months after Nelson Mandela was released from prison. After his recovery he founded the Institute for the Healing of Memories to provide those who could not appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission an opportunity to share their experiences and be acknowledged for their suffering during the apartheid years. The Institute provides workshops internationally, enabling people from different ethnic groups, races and religions to reach a better understanding of themselves and each other, and help people cope with challenges or circumstances, including HIV/AIDS, victims of violence and human rights abuses, people experiencing discrimination and injustice, war veterans, prison inmates, refugees, and immigrants.
