Peace & Social Concerns: FCNL Priorities Discernment

Sunday, March 11, 2018 - 13:00 to 14:30
The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), the Quaker Lobby in Washington DC, seeks to bring spiritual values and Friends' testimonies to bear on public policy decisions.  It is one of the organizations Morningsiders strongly support through Peace & Social Concerns. As it does every two years, the organization is taking a fresh look at which issues will be the core of its lobbying in the next session of Congress (the 116th), which runs from January 2019 to December 2020, and is inviting Friends and their meetings and organizations all over the country to share which of the many public policy issues and questions identified in FCNL's Policy Statement, "The World We Seek," we think are the most important.
Please join us this Sunday, March 11, at 1:00 pm for a special meeting of Peace & Social Concerns to participate in discerning which of the many possible legislative priorities we Morningsiders deem most important for FCNL to pursue in Congress in 2019-2020. For our priorities to be considered, the outcome of our discernment must be shared with FCNL no later than April 13 so that our list may be incorporated into the presentation of possible legislative priorities that will be brought for discernment to FCNL's Annual Meeting this coming November. ALL ARE WELCOME.
To get you started on your thinking about the issues, below is a list of FCNL's 10 priorities for the 115th Congress. We are being asked to submit no more than 7 priorities for consideration. We may decide to choose from among those listed below, and/or bring forward new concerns.
If you have time before Sunday, please go to for additional information, including the latest edition of "The World We Seek," which may be downloaded and printed out. Copies will be available at the meeting on Sunday, but since it is 20 pages long, it would be good if Friends could read it beforehand. At the same location on the FCNL website, check out "Priorities Discernment: Resources for Centering." FCNL offers these queries and readings as a resource to help ground and center us as we gather in worshipful consideration of the priorities.

See you on tomorrow. --Corona
